Bang Tao, Surin or Kamala: Which Phuket Area Works Best for a Large Group?
For a large family or group, the best Phuket area is not simply the beach that looks nicest in a photograph. The real question is how easily everyone can eat, move, rest and meet again without turning each day into a transport operation.
Start with the group, not the map
A couple can change plans in five minutes. A group of ten or twelve cannot. Before choosing an area, list what the stay actually needs: easy groceries, different dining preferences, children or older guests, private transport, beach time and quiet evenings.
If most days begin and end at the villa, space and practical access usually matter more than being beside the busiest strip of restaurants.
Bang Tao: the most balanced base for villa logistics
Bang Tao works particularly well for groups that want a broad beach area, useful everyday services and enough choice for different ages. The Laguna and Boat Avenue side adds restaurants, supermarkets and meeting points, while a private villa lets the group return to one calm base.
It is a strong choice when some guests want beach time, others want cafés or shopping, and the whole party still wants dinner together at the villa.
Surin: compact, beach-focused and quieter
Surin suits guests who place the beach and a more compact holiday rhythm first. It can feel refined and relaxed, but a large group should check the exact villa access, parking and how often everyone will need transport for groceries and wider dining choices.
For a group happy to spend more time together at the villa and beach, Surin can be excellent. For many separate daily plans, Bang Tao is usually simpler.
Kamala: useful for west-coast exploring, with more terrain to consider
Kamala has a sheltered bay, local restaurants and convenient access toward Patong and the central west coast. Many larger villas sit on slopes, so the address may offer views but also make walking impractical.
Ask about road access, vehicle size and stairs before booking. A beautiful hillside location is not automatically convenient for children, older relatives or guests coming and going independently.

- Choose Surin for a quieter, beach-led stay with fewer separate plans.
- Choose Kamala when west-coast access matters and the group is comfortable using transport.
- Always compare the exact villa address and access, not only the area name.
- For a large party, arrange a minivan instead of relying on several cars meeting at the same time.
